The reason I bought this unit was for iPod itegration. What I wanted was simple:
1) a unit that would allow me to connect an ipod such that the ipod was concealed in the glove box or the hutch
2) a unit that charged the ipod when connected
3) a unit that allowed touch-screen navigation of songs, playlists, etc
4) a unit that would integrate with my steering-wheel controls on my Navigator
On item 1 above (concealment), the unit fails. Here’s why. The only way to get 2 (charging) and 3 (touch-screen) is to plug the iPod into the USB port ON THE FRONT of the unit.
While there is an AV port on the back, it treats the ipod purely as an audio source and WILL NOT ENABLE touch-screen navigation of the ipod songs. Extremely annoying because there was nowhere in the online documentation that spelled this out. What’s worse, I bought the cable and hooked it up anyway. So I can listen to the music but if I want to change songs then I have to do so on the ipod itself (so forget about concealment). The worst part is that since the unit thinks the ipod is now an AV (audio/visual) source, it shows this annoying message on the unit screen constantly that tells you it’s not safe to drive while watching a video… ARRRRGGGGHHHH!
So my solution is to run an very ugly USB cable out of the front of the unit and into my center console.
The solution (Pioneer, I hope you’re listening) is to put a USB port on the rear of the unit for ipod integration.
Extremely annoying. I’m upset with Pioneer for such crummy online documentation of these details and I frankly expected more of Amazon, too.
Sincerely,
Extremely Disappointed.

Great Item love all the features – I am disappointed in the am/fm radio – not clear-static mostly in AM – but overall great receiver and would recommend

I Think this is one fine unit. I had no trouble installing it, It works perfectly. It was a downer that the unit only reads standard sd cards however I have gotten around that.
I have hooked a usb2 extention cord from the back of the unit and have velcroed a Digital Concepts CR-35N usb sd card reader/ writer ($9 shipped) under the dash in an inconspicuous location and presto, now able to use any size SDHC card. A little extra effort that could have been saved if Pioneer would have just programmed SDHC tech into the unit. But a quick, easy and cheap fix. By the way, be sure to get your usb2 extension cord on line. I went shopping at local electronic stores and office stores and they wanted to sell me gold tipped extensions for $20 to $30. Just need a cheap cable. I got mine from amazon for less than $3 shipped.

I have not had any of the issues that other reviewers are having. All of my folders Artist, Albums, and songs are properly being displayed in either usb, sd, or ipod mode, and they are playing in order as well. Well they play in order after I turned the shuffle function off. My radio reception is perfect. AM sounds like AM.

This is a pretty good unit, it would be 5 stars had they not included the SD card slot (which is the reason I bought this particular model). No matter how you name your files, it is incapable of sorting them properly, and there is no way to re-sort them so that the songs on a single album play in order. I spent hours making sure my files were named such that even the most brain-dead sorting method could handle them, but this unit failed. Files arranged on my card thusly:
Artist 1
Album 1
01 track 01.mp3
02 track 02.mp3
Album 2
01 track 01.mp3
Artist 2
etc…
Would be displayed completely out of order. Unacceptable; it would be better to not include this feature at all, than include it with how horribly broken it is.
With that out of the way the sound quality is very good. I haven’t tried the auto-eq yet, but I was able to find pleasing results with the pre-defined eq curves. It also has per input custom slots that I haven’t had time to play with.
The ipod integration is seamless. It is actually possible to control while driving with the large touchscreen. Unlike the worthless SD slot, the ipod is sorted properly.
The touchscreen is responsive, and provides auditory feedback when it has been activated (a beep). It is visible in all but direct sunlight.
